Liverpool are set to move for Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, according to a report released today.
The ‘keeper caught the world’s attention after a fantastic World Cup campaign with his country, Costa Rica. Madrid only signed Navas last summer and he has been out of favour with Iker Casillas between the sticks, and with the expected arrival of David De Gea this summer – Navas’ future looks to be elsewhere.
The Mirror claim that Brendan Rodgers is set to bid in the region of £10.5m for the 28 year-old.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for a ‘keeper for a while now – however, Simon Mignolet has impressed during the second half of the season. The Mirror, though, state that Navas will be Mignolet’s replacement.
Navas’ contract was only agreed last summer; it doesn’t run out until 2020. However, it has a £10.5m release clause which Liverpool are reportedly interested in activating to gain the Costa Rican international’s services.
Brad Jones is set to leave Anfield as his contract is expiring, so there is definite need for another goalkeeper in the squad. Other options such as Asmir Begovic are reportedly being looked at too.
