Reported Liverpool target Matt Targett is set to be handed a starting role at Southampton, with Ryan Bertrand set to be sold.
Targett had been linked with a move away from the Saints, with Ryan Bertrand being Southampton’s first choice left back.
However, in an effort to keep Targett at the club, Southampton look likely to promote the defender to the starting role, according to the Daily Mail.
Bertrand is now likely to be sold, with Targett being kept at the club.

It had been believed that Liverpool were interested in a move for Targett to provide depth and competition at left back after Alberto Moreno left the club this Summer.
However, Targett is now likely to stay at Southampton, with the promise of first team football being a big lure for the defender.
Aston Villa also reportedly had an interest in Targett, who had been thought to be a likely outgoing from St Mary’s.
