Inter Milan have beaten Chelsea and Liverpool to the signing of Lazio’s centre back Stefan De Vrij, according to reports.
Liverpool seemed to be the favourites to complete the signing of the Dutchman but Inter have apparently agreed terms with him.
De Vrij has been a Liverpool target for some time and is thought of highly by plenty of Reds fans, with many hoping he’d become Virgil van Dijk’s main defensive partner for future years.
Nothing has been officially confirmed by Lazio or Inter Milan so a deal for De Vrij could still be on the cards for Liverpool, but it looks like he’s already commited to a move Inter at the end of the season.
Whether Liverpool try to sign another centre back remains to be seen as plenty of observers thought that the interest in De Vrij was purely a value-based decision as he was available for free.
With Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan still at the club, Jurgen Klopp could feel like he has an adueate stable of defenders and as such, he could choose to spend the available transfer funds elsewhere.
