Liverpool will enter a team into the EFL Trophy for the first time next season, it has been confirmed.
Simon Peach of the Press Association tweeted earlier today that the Reds are set to participate, having previously chosen to sit out of the competition.

The format of the EFL Trophy was changed in 2016 to allow academy sides from ‘category one’ clubs to enter and gain competitive experience, but the Reds are one of only two teams who have not yet taken part.
Rivals Manchester United are the other team who had not entered a youth team in the EFL Trophy, but they will also be involved from 2019/20.
The competition sees 16 invited academy teams take on clubs from League One and League Two, starting with regional group stages before progressing to knockout rounds and ending in a Wembley final.
Liverpool’s youngsters tasted success in April when the under-18’s beat Manchester City to win the FA Youth Cup.
