Curtis Jones has been linked with a Liverpool departure this summer as he has less than a year left on his current deal.
Speculation surrounding the Englishman’s future has dominated the back pages as he has struggled to nail down a starting spot at Anfield.
Inter Milan have been heavily linked with a move for Jones and had a first offer knocked back for him earlier this summer.
And now, Ben Jacobs has confirmed that Liverpool have rejected another offer from the Italian giants for the Scouser as they continue to stand firm on their valuation.
Liverpool reject €35m Inter offer for Curtis Jones
Since making his debut in 2019 under Jurgen Klopp, Jones has been with the Liverpool first team and has featured over 100 times across all competitions.
However, he has been a squad player more often than not, due to which his Anfield future remains uncertain.
Yesterday, Andoni Iraola confirmed in his first Liverpool press conference that he wants to keep Jones, which came as a clear message to his potential suitors.
That didn’t stop Inter from making another approach for him, though. Jacobs confirms that Inter’s €35m offer was swiftly knocked back by Liverpool, who want over €40m to sell him this summer.
Nottingham Forest are also in the race for Jones but haven’t made an offer for him, as they ponder their next course of action after officially selling Elliot Anderson to Manchester City for £116m.
Liverpool must keep Jones
To be quite frank, Liverpool have a handful of holes to address this summer, especially in attack after Mohamed Salah’s departure and Hugo Ekitike’s injury.
If Jones were to leave, they would need to enter the market for another midfielder, which is something they’ll look to avoid, considering the prices of the likes of Anderson, Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, among others.
Jones has a lot of value as a midfielder and can play multiple roles for Iraola, while he is also capable of slotting in as a right-back.
He has a lot of experience for a young player and is also a boyhood Scouser, which is a factor Iraola spoke about explicitly during his first press conference.
Inter’s first two offers have been derisory, to say the least. However, they are edging closer to Liverpool’s asking price and if they decide to match it, it remains to be seen what the hierarchy decides.
