Andoni Iraola makes brutally honest confession on Liverpool’s transfer plans

Andoni Iraola is officially in the building at the AXA Training Ground and held his first press conference as Liverpool manager.

After three fantastic seasons with Bournemouth, the Spaniard took over the reigns at Anfield after Liverpool made the difficult decision to part with Arne Slot before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Reds have a lot of work to do in the transfer market as they are short on numbers, especially after Mohamed Salah and Ibrahima Konate’s departures.

And now, the new Liverpool boss has made a bold claim on future incomings, which will come as music to the ears of the Anfield faithful.

Iraola says Liverpool need multiple new signings

Liverpool agreed a deal to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes in the January transfer window, with the defender officially joining the club earlier this month.

In attack, the Reds moved quickly to sign Victor Munoz from Osasuna as they launched a late move to trigger his release clause and snatch him from Newcastle United’s grasp.

And now, Iraola feels the Reds need a few more players to complete his squad, adding that the hierarchy is working diligently behind the scenes to get deals over the line.

“Obviously, we’ve signed two players, but we need more players; we know this. The club is working on this!”

“We’ve signed two players; we need more, we know this. We are working on this.

“As a coach, I want the players here from day one, selfishly, but we know it doesn’t work like this; we’re working hard for those signings.”

What do Liverpool need?

There is a Salah-shaped hole in attack which needs to be filled and it remains to be seen who they identify to take over the reigns from the Egyptian king.

Bradley Barcola has been linked with a move to Liverpool, with Yan Diomande set for a move to PSG.

Midfield is another area of concern as the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch blew hot and cold last season, while Curtis Jones has been linked with a departure from Anfield.

Roma’s Manu Kone has keen admirers at Anfield, while Ayyoub Bouaddi has also been linked with a move to Liverpool after his fantastic displays at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

A handful of players have been linked with the club, but with the new season just over a month away, the Reds need to press ahead with targets and get them over the line so that they have enough time to get used to their new surroundings.
