Liverpool trio set to depart club this summer

Long-serving Liverpool trio Simon Mignolet, Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge will reportedly leave the club this summer after falling out of favour under Jurgen Klopp.

All three players arrived at the club before Jurgen Klopp was appointed manager in 2015 and have gradually been deprived of minutes.

According to the Times, Moreno and Sturridge will depart on free transfers, presenting the opportunity for some good business ahead of the new season, whilst Mignolet will be sold on.

The Belgian goalkeeper was first-choice for a number of seasons after joining from Sunderland in 2013, but has been replaced twice by Lorius Karius and more recently Alisson, who has stamped his authority on the no. 1 shirt.

Klopp has one of the most dangerous attacks in Europe including Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, which has only offered Sturridge game time off the bench – even though Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi are preferred.

Andy Robertson’s consistent form since joining from Hull City at the start of last season has also shut out Moreno, so it’s no surprise the Spaniard is seeking a way out of Anfield.

It’s likely Liverpool will splash the cash once again in the summer, which will probably result in more first-teamers making way too, but that’s just how this football business works.
