Liverpool won’t be held to ransom in their attempts to sign Roma winger Mohamed Salah, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds have already had a bid of £28 million rejected by Roma as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his attacking options for next season.
Reports from Italy over the weekend suggested a deal was imminent yet it is understood that a fee is still to be agreed between the two clubs.
Roma are holding out for Liverpool to smash their transfer record fee of £35 million paid for the signing of Andy Carroll from Newcastle United back in 2011.
However, Liverpool are adamant that they will not pay over the odds for the 24-year-old, and are deliberating on other targets if the deal is to fall through.
Jim Pallotta, Roma president, addressed Liverpool’s interest in Salah earlier this week by saying there is “nothing in it at the moment”.
Salah is said to have agreed on personal terms with the Merseyside club, with just a fee to be agreed for his services.
The Egyptian international scored 15 goals and contributed 13 assists to Roma’s Serie A campaign last season.
