Napoli have identified Lucas Leiva as a major January transfer target. Inter Milan are also interested in the Liverpool midfielder. But The Mirror understands Lucas would be keen to link up with former boss, Rafael Benitez.
However, this move isn’t so simple. Liverpool are supposedly reluctant to let the experienced midfielder leave Anfield. Fabian Delph, a Liverpool target, would have to be signed before Liverpool even consider allowing Lucas to move to the Italian giants.
Lucas, who recently turned 28, hasn’t been an integral part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans in recent years. He has, though, come into the side and flourished, recently.
He looks a significant part of the way Liverpool are playing at the moment. And it is no coincidence that Liverpool’s upturn in form has coincided with his inclusion. He protects the back three well and shows terrific leadership qualities on the pitch, which are evident when viewing.
Benitez has been chasing the defensive midfielder for two years now, according to The Mirror. The Spanish manager is hopeful that the two clubs will come to an agreement regarding the Brazilian midfielder.
