Lucas Leiva is out of Liverpool’s hugely significant encounter with Tottenham on Tuesday.
The Brazilian’s form in recent weeks has been exceptional but an injury to his thigh will most likely see him face a lengthy spell out on the sidelines, according to Paul Joyce of The Express.
Lucas, whose career has been massively impacted by injuries, has been one of the first names on the team-sheet recently.
Lucas was rested as a precaution on Wednesday against Bolton Wanderers. He started the Merseyside Derby, however he only managed 15 minutes and obviously aggravated the initial problem.
Joe Allen was forced to come on as Lucas’ replacement on Saturday evening.
However, the Welsh international failed to impress and perhaps showed he is incapable of playing in this system. Emre Can has been playing at centre back, but with Lucas’ injury, it may mean he moves into midfield.
Liverpool looked like they missed Lucas after his departure at Goodison Park. Brendan Rodgers will hope there isn’t the same issue when they take on Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night.
