Merseyside derby unchanged

Merseyside derby unchanged

Next month’s Merseyside Derby between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park is set to stay a teatime kick-off.

This comes despite the Liverpool Council disagreeing with the kick-off time because they feel there is more chance of fans consuming alcohol and perhaps not acting in the correct manner.

Liverpool Council had requested the 17:30 kick-off time was changed to an earlier one to prevent any of the above.

The Premier League has denied the request from the Liverpool Council, though. The February 7th fixture will be kicking off as scheduled, at 17:30.

In December, Liverpool Council stated that they would be after some legal advice on its position if the Premier League didn’t agree with the start time being pushed forward to an earlier time. The council are yet to issue a response to the Premier League’s decision.

This is arguably the biggest match of the season for both clubs and undoubtedly the one fans always look for when the fixtures are announced. The atmosphere in both stadiums is always brilliant for the ‘friendly derby’ , irregardless of kick-off time, so that was a non-issue.

Everton managed a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw in the first Merseyside derby this season, so Liverpool will be looking for revenge.
