Milner: I’m enjoying every minute

James Milner has spoken about his move to Liverpool and how welcome he feels within the squad. Milner has also implied that he’s impressed with the talent that surrounds him in the Liverpool squad.

He told ESPN: “Yeah it does (feel like I’ve been here ages) to be fair. It’s early days but I’m enjoying every minute. I think the boys have done a great job welcoming me in. I feel great already.”

Milner had many options to choose from before joining Liverpool, as the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal also reportedly made offers for the England international.

Milner, though, is convinced he has made the correct decision to join the 5 time European champions:

“Liverpool is a massive club. It’s a great club, and we’ve got a great young squad here, a great coaching staff and a following all around the world. It’s a great place to play football and I’m really looking forward to it.

“The time I’ve spent here has only been a few weeks but I do feel comfortable and that’s the most important thing.”

One of the major factors in the 29-year-old’s decision to join the Reds was manager Brendan Rodgers’ promise to play him in the centre of midfield.

Milner believes that this is his best position and his performances so far in pre-season will leave Liverpool fans optimistic about the future of their midfield.

He added: “I’m delighted, I love playing in there. I think that’s best for my attributes and where I can play my best football.”

The former Aston Villa player also believes that he can contribute a lot to Liverpool’s goal count next season; an area they significantly need to improve from last season:

“That’s what I think I can do. I’ve always managed to work hard on my finishing and I feel I can do that. Playing in the middle gives you more opportunity when you’re getting chances in front of the goal rather than being wide and shooting across goals and having tough angles.”

The Englishman then went on to speak about some of Liverpool’s young talent and how he believes they can help the side in Liverpool’s top four bid:

“There’s a great bunch of lads here and there’s a lot of ability, and I think you can see in the younger players as well – the likes of Jordon Ibe and Divock Origi have come in and both looked sharp, Danny Ings, those guys. I think it’s an exciting time for the football club.

“I’d obviously seen him (Ibe) last year, the hype, and seen him do well. He’s got a lot of ability and he’s still young, he’s learning, but I think with the players he has got around him and the manager – and the ability he has – everything’s there for him to go on and do well.”
