‘Nowhere near enough’ – Jamie Carragher tears into Liverpool player

Andoni Iraola suffered his first defeat as Liverpool manager as they were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City at Anfield.

The Reds fell flat in the second half after Ryan Gravenberch’s red card as City made them pay thanks to goals from Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki and Jeremy Doku.

Once again, Florian Wirtz came under the limelight for his subpar performance. The German international was sacrificed in the second half after Gravenberch’s sending off as Trey Nyoni came on in his place.

And now, after criticising him before the international break, Jamie Carragher has doubled down on his claims on the former Bayer Leverkusen man.

Jamie Carragher criticises Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz

“Liverpool have paid top dollar, and they’re getting nowhere near what they should be getting,” said Carragher via Sky Sports.

“Koumas and Munoz were better than the £200 million players [Wirtz and Bradley Barcola]. Now, that can’t be right; it’s just not right.”

“What Florian Wirtz is giving Liverpool right now is nowhere near enough.”

Carragher’s criticism of Wirtz last week was a bit unwarranted as Liverpool won a tough away game with a lot of good individual performances, so he could have focused on the positives.

However, it does look like he has a point as Wirtz is really struggling to get to grips with life in England despite showing flashes of his potential.

Liverpool will give him all the time in the world to succeed, but if he carries on like this, Iraola might look to relegate him to the bench as it simply isn’t working out at the moment.
