Liverpool handed Champions League boost with AC Milan striker a doubt for clash

Liverpool’s miraculous top-four finish last season ensured the Reds qualified for this year’s Champions League.

Despite their poor form at the midpoint of the previous campaign, this year will likely be much different.

This season’s Champions League campaign kicks off in just under two weeks, with the Reds handed a tough group.

Last week saw the draw for the group stage, with Liverpool handed a group with AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, and FC Porto.

The Reds have a fine record against Porto but have struggled with Atletico over the last few seasons.

However, the real blast from the past will be when the Reds face Milan – and we all know why.

Despite the obvious history and excitement of facing the Serie A giants, they may have a key man missing.

According to the Liverpool Echo, via Anfield Watch, Milan may be without new boy No.9 Olivier Giroud…

Giroud reportedly tested positive, meaning he will have to isolate for ten days before heading back to training.

This likely means he will not be ready to face the Reds at Anfield on the 15th of September.

Of course, it is almost positive that he will have recovered but the main issue is being match fit for the game.

It is great news for the Reds, with Giroud a familiar opponent to the club and Jurgen Klopp.

Having spent the majority of his career in the Premier League with Arsenal and Chelsea, Giroud has played his fair share of games against the Reds.

There is no denying that the club will be looking forward to the visit from the Italian side.

The last time that Liverpool faced Milan in Europe was the Champions League final in 2007 which they lost.

Hopefully, some form of revenge can be administered this month with a hugely anticipated game at Anfield.
