According to reports in Spain, Real Madrid would be willing to sell Spanish wonderkid Marco Asensio – a major Liverpool target – in order to finance a deal for PSG’s Neymar.
The Metro, via Spanish publication Sport, claim there will be a mass clear out after the World Cup with Real’s new manager Julen Lopetegui considering Asensio as one for the transfer list.

Asensio would cost around £158 million, which would obviously be Liverpool’s record signing by some margin. This would help in Real’s pursuit of Neymar, who Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, hailed his ‘dream’ signing. Neymar’s price is an extraordinary £264 million – over £60 million more than what he was sold for last summer.
When asked about Liverpool, Asensio said
“Liverpool? When the World Cup is over, we will talk about that sort of thing. Now I am focused on selection.”
It is his impressive form for Los Blancos at such a young age that earned Asensio a call up to La Roja’s World Cup squad. Last season, the 22 year old registered 11 goals and six assists in 53 appearances.
There will obviously be a lot of suitors for Asensio, as a player of his quality would be wanted by any club in the world – just not Real Madrid, it seems.
For Liverpool to pay £158 million for a player, it would be surprising and unthinkabl, but, in the case of Asensio, Jurgen Klopp could be given the green light over this transfer deal.
