Real Madrid icon Toni Kroos aims brutal dig at Liverpool player

Liverpool have blown hot and cold under Andoni Iraola so far but are also unbeaten across all competitions under the Spaniard.

The Reds have shown signs of development, but it goes without saying that they will be a work in progress as they continue to get to grips with the new system.

One player who has made a lot of headlines recently is Florian Wirtz. He has started every Premier League and UEFA Champions League game so far but has struggled to make a mark.

And now, Toni Kroos has made a sarcastic – and rather needless claim on his compatriot ahead of Germany’s games during the international break under Jurgen Klopp.

Toni Kroos flames Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz

In a podcast with his brother (as relayed by Sport Witness), Felix Kroos, the former Real Madrid midfielder was asked to name three players for Germany who could impress during the upcoming international break.

The only caveat was to name players who weren’t part of the World Cup.

And Kroos, knowing full well that the 22-year-old took part and played quite well under Julian Nagelsmann, named him alongside Aleksandr Pavlovic and Jamal Musiala, with his brother later realising that it was a sarcastic remark.

Granted, Wirtz hasn’t set the world alight since his move to Liverpool. But to be fair to him, he has delivered the goods more often than not and the media scrutiny on him is just absolutely ridiculous.

Everyone should be allowed to voice their opinions and make a joke or two here and there. But Kroos’ comments are a bit classless, given that this is a player already struggling to meet expectations.

We’re sincerely hoping Wirtz shows his class under Iraola and Klopp this season so that Kroos and other pundits across the world can start to eat their words.
