Redknapp: Liverpool could still sign Virgil Van Dijk

Just under a week ago, much to the dismay of many Liverpool fans, the club issued a public apology to Southampton for the tapping up of their star central defender Virgil Van Dijk. This seemingly ended all interest in the player.

However Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp  believes the deal isn’t dead in the water just yet, as reported by the Daily Star.

He believes Liverpool aren’t ruling out returning in the window to sign Van Dijk this transfer window.

“I don’t think that one’s necessarily over,” Redknapp says.

“I think they apologised for making an enquiry after it became public.

“If Van Dijk is up for sale and he wants to go to Liverpool, and Liverpool have the money to buy him, the chances are he’ll go there.

He would be brilliant signing for Liverpool, he’s perfect for what they need.

“He can score goals, he’s a brilliant defender. He’s a tremendous talent.”

Obviously it would take a lot for Southampton to sell us their captain after what transpired. With the fee seemingly in £60-75M region, if Liverpool were to agree a deal it would show a real sign of intent that they are serious about challenging for trophies next season.
