Reds swoop for Chelsea’s Solanke

Liverpool have won the race for Chelsea’s highly-rated 19-year-old striker Dominic Solanke and he’ll officially join the club on July 1st.

The talented youngster, who is currently away on England under-20’s World Cup duty with new team-mates Ovie Ejaria and Sheyi Ojo, was out of contract this summer having failed to agree on a new deal with the Premier League champions.

Solanke has been with Chelsea since the age of just seven, making his senior debut in October 2014, and spent the 2015-16 season out on loan in the Eredivisie with Vitesse Arnhem where he scored seven goals in 25 league appearances. However, last season he found game time hard to come by and was only named on the bench once by new boss Antonio Conte.

The striker has represented England at every youth level, and in 48 games for the national side has netted 23 goals. At the current U20 World Cup in South Korea, Solanke scored in the opener against Argentina, was named as the captain for England’s last game against the hosts and is predicted to be leading the line again in the last 16 clash with Costa Rica tomorrow.

Celtic, RB Leipzig and several other Premier League clubs were rumoured to have been interested in signing the teenager, making this something of a coup for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp if he is able to make Solanke his first transfer of the summer.

The fee for the transfer will be set by a tribunal as he is still under 24 years of age, with reports estimating that it be around £3million and the player’s wages will be around £20,000 per week.
