Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has admitted that he had worries about whether he would be able to see again after getting a strong poke in his left eye by Jan Vertonghen.
This came during Liverpool’s 2-1 win at Wembley a couple of weeks ago where the Spurs defender appeared to lose his bearings and had a rush of blood to his head.
However, the 27-year old was not kept on the sidelines for long and made a big impact from the bench a few days later to secure a dramatic win against PSG in the Champions League.

This preceded his celebration which involved him covering his left eye with his hand to show he hadn’t forgotten about the incident.
In fact, the Brazilian later revealed the fears that he had for his sight and therefore his career and still continues to have treatment.
When speaking to Sky Sports as the Liverpool Echo report, Firmino explained his concerns after the incident and how it affected him.
When the incident happened, everything was blurry and I couldn’t see out of my left eye. I was scared of going blind in one eye and not being able to see again. Thank God nothing like that happened and it gradually improved day after day.
The Brazilian then went on to add that his eye now feels much better, but he’s still getting treatment on it.
It’s much better. The pain has gone and I can’t feel anything anymore. It’s still a bit red, but I hope that clears up over time. I was frightened, but the pain gradually passed after the doctor gave me a painkiller and it got better.
Firmino will be hoping to be back to full fitness before the mouth-watering clash with Manchester City at the weekend as he and his team-mates will have to be at their very best if they are to end a run of three games without a win in all competitions.
