Andrew Robertson has admitted Liverpool aren’t expecting any favours from Leicester City when they travel to Manchester City on Monday night.
Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League table on Saturday night with a narrow 3-2 win at Newcastle United thanks to Divock Origi’s 86th-minute header and now the ball is back in City’s court.
This season has played host to one of the greatest title races in recent history and Robertson has told Sky Sports that the Reds have done all they can to secure a first Premier League title:
If we get to 97 points and don’t win the league, then, of course, we’ll be gutted but we can’t have done much more. We’ve come up against a class team but I’m sure they’ll say the same about us. We’ve put the pressure back on Manchester City but they’ve had eight days to prepare for Leicester, so I’m sure they’ll be ready. We don’t expect anything but we can always hope.
Jurgen Klopp’s side lead City by two points, but the reigning champions will take a one-point advantage going into the final day with a win against the Foxes. Anything less, and it’s in Liverpool’s hands.
If both teams were to win their remaining fixtures, Liverpool would be the first to ever record 97 points and not lift the trophy.
