Italian giants Roma have entered the race for Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca.
Liverpool have shown concrete interest in bringing the striker to Anfield this summer. However, there is competition for the highly-rated 28 year old, with AC Milan and Roma reportedly keen on Bacca.
Roma have, apparently, made an £18m bid for the Colombian international and Roma’s sporting director has publically stated his admiration for the Sevilla forward by telling Spanish newspaper ABC: “We want Bacca. That’s all I can say.”
Reports in The Independent yesterday claim Ian Ayre will stay in Chile – after capturing Firmino there – to potentially move for Bacca.
Bacca had a tremendous season for Sevilla last year. He scored 28 goals in all competitions; 20 in La Liga, one in the Copa del Rey and an impressive seven in the Europa League – helping Sevilla retain their crown.
It’s no secret that Liverpool are in the market for a striker, following a hugely disappointing season in front of goal.
Daniel Sturridge’s injuries occur too often for the Reds to not be interested in another top class forward. And despite the £29m capture of Roberto Firmino, it seems Rodgers is still in the market for a top-class frontman, but they won’t have it all their way in the race for Carlos Bacca.
