Sadio Mane targets Champions League glory for Liverpool

Sadio Mane says Liverpool’s primary objective now is to the win the Champions League this season – something he believes they can do.

The Reds’ Premier League title defence has petered out in depression fashion, with injuries hampering Jurgen Klopp’s side hugely.

It now looks as though a top-four finish could even be a struggle, following four defeats in a row.

Speaking to ESPN Brasil [via the Liverpool Echo], Mane talked up Liverpool’s hope of becoming European champions for the second time in three seasons:

The Champions League, that is our main, main, main target. To win it, not be second, but it won’t be easy.

You’re going to face the best teams in Europe, but we’re here to beat the best in the world.

We’ll do everything possible to go forward and win the Champions League.

Although things certainly look stacked against Liverpool at the moment, Champions League glory cannot be ruled out.

The Reds’ unforgettable triumph in the competition back in 2005 showed that anything is possible, at a time when they were far inferior to a number of teams in the competition.

If Liverpool can get the likes of Fabinho, Naby Keita and Diogo Jota back fit and starting regularly, their starting lineup will look more formidable, and they are already well-placed to get past RB Leipzig and reach the quarter-finals.

It would be a surprise if they won it, considering everything that is going against them, but it shouldn’t be deemed an impossible task.
