Shaqiri hoping for Anfield stay despite heavy speculation of a move away

Liverpool forward Xherdan Shaqiri is hoping to remain on Merseyside next season following the Reds’ sixth Champions League triumph, the Daily Express report.

The Swiss star featured predominantly from the bench under Jurgen Klopp last season, turning out 30 times in all competitions.

The 27-year-old was included in the 23 man squad for the Champions League final against Tottenham but failed to make it onto the pitch during the 2-0 win in Madrid.

With Shaqiri failing to feature as heavily during the second half of the season, there were reports suggesting the club would be willing to offload the forward in the summer.

West Ham were reportedly keen on meeting Liverpool’s £22.5m valuation of the player ahead of a summer switch.

However, talking following the Reds’ Champions League triumph against Tottenham, Shaqiri insisted he is hoping to remain at Anfield next season to help the club challenge for the Premier League once again.

Is this why I came to Liverpool? Yes.

This club needs to win titles, and it’s a good start to win this one, no? Now next year we are going to go again and try to win the Premier League.

That’s my big dream, to win the Premier League with this club.

It just feels amazing. It’s been a long time since Liverpool won this title, 2005.

Now we won the biggest title in Europe, it’s amazing. It doesn’t happen every day.

We are a very good team and we work hard together every day. I hope we can go on, this is just the start and we can win many more titles.

Shaqiri almost joined the Hammers last summer before deciding to move to Merseyside, and it appears as if the player has no intentions of leaving the club ahead of the new season.
