England manager Gareth Southgate has expressed his disappointment after it was confirmed that Adam Lallana had withdrawn from the England squad, BT Sport reports.
The Football Association released a statement on Tuesday afternoon stating that Lallana had returned to his club in order to be assessed for a groin injury.
The Liverpool midfielder endured a tough time last season with injury which lead to him missing out on a place in Southgate’s World Cup squad for Russia.

The 30-year-old had however been put on Southgate’s stand-by list and had since been recalled to the senior squad for their upcoming clashes with Spain and Switzerland.
However, having been hit once again by injury, Lallana has had to withdraw.
Southgate spoke to Sky Sports about his disappointment over Lallana’s withdrawal.
He has just picked up a muscular injury.
It was quite close to the beginning of training so it is the worst thing as far as we are concerned because you never want to send players back injured.
Adam has had such a difficult run personally. He is a player we think so much of and I know Jurgen does.
So at the moment he is having a really difficult run and you review what you might have been able to do differently but today was just really out of the blue.
I am really disappointed for him because he has had such a tough year – missing so much football. Hopefully he will be back strong as quickly as possible.
