‘Standing still’ – Pundit rips into Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool and Atletico Madrid played out an entertaining half of football at Anfield as the UEFA Champions League group stage clash is currently tantalisingly poised at 1-1.

The Reds started well in attack, with new signing Bradley Barcola playing on the right flank, but fell behind to a player they have failed to contain over the years.

Once again, it was Marcos Llorente who silenced Anfield as he latched onto a brilliant through ball to put the ball into the back of the net past Alisson Becker’s despairing dive.

The Liverpool defenders looked clueless as Diego Simeone’s side carved them open easily.

And Tim Sherwood believes Virgil van Dijk could have done a lot more to prevent the Spaniard’s effort.

“The defenders are so square. He bends his run in. There’s no one near him. Van Dijk’s just standing still. He’s clearly onside!”

At the time, it looked like Milos Kerkez was playing him onside, but the Liverpool backline looked clueless as a whole as Llorente made them pay once again.

We’re not sure if it was Van Dijk’s fault or anyone else’s, but at this point in time, we’re certainly tired of watching Llorente score at Anfield….
