Sterling claims he was ‘happy’ to see Liverpool beat Barcelona

Raheem Sterling has admitted he is ready for Manchester City’s title decider this weekend, and has warned Liverpool that the game will be one City won’t take lightly.

The England international was talking after picking up the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award on Thursday, where he also to have been happy for the Reds after their extraordinary comeback against Barcelona on Tuesday.

With his attention focused on Brighton this weekend, with Manchester City knowing a win will see them claim the Premier League title, Sterling said (as reported by Mirror Sport):

We know how big an occasion it is. But I’d much rather be on our side, to know if we win the game, it’s ours.

It will be a tough day, that’s for sure. We know Brighton won’t just sit there and let us score goals.

They’re safe and it is going to be a really tough day, to be honest with you, but it is one I am really looking forward to.

Meanwhile, Sterling also praised his former club for their fightback against Barcelona in their Champions League semi-final second leg.

Barcelona had been 3-0 up in the first leg at the Nou Camp, and without Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah in the second leg at Anfield, many had written the Reds off. However, after four goals in 90 minutes, the Reds completed an unbelievable comeback to face Tottenham in the final.

Speaking about the comeback, as reported by journalist Jacqui Oatley on Twitter, Sterling said:

I was really happy for Liverpool. I was buzzing. People might not believe me but it’s true.
