Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling could face disciplinary action due to his attempts to force a move, according to James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo.
This comes after the 20-year-old informed Brendan Rodgers on Tuesday that he does not wish to be included in the squad for their pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia, and he called in sick to training a day later.
It is standard procedure for the club to send a doctor to Sterling’s house to judge the severity of the illness.
Sterling returned to training with most of his team mates on Monday and was reported to have been in a 25 minute meeting with Rodgers on Tuesday.
It was in that meeting that the England international reiterated his desire to leave the club after rejecting a contract extension last season.
These latest developments intensify Sterling’s imminent departure from Anfield.
The club are looking at Real Madrid’s Denis Cheryshev and Barcelona’s Pedro as potential replacements for Sterling.
