Sturridge saga set for U-turn amid links away from Anfield

It’s been six years, nearly to the day, since Daniel Sturridge arrived on Merseyside to become part of Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool squad.

However, the striker has not had as much game time during Jurgen Klopp’s reign as Liverpool boss when compared to his predecessor, mostly due to his injury record.

Despite numerous reports that have suggested the England international could be packing his bags to leave Anfield on a permanent basis, the Daily Mail claims that the club have no intention of letting him leave in January and he could even be offered a new long-term deal.

Interest from international clubs including Milan, Inter and several Chinese Super League outfits sparked rumours that the 29-year-old was set for an early Liverpool exit this month.

Instead, the newspaper suggests that Sturridge is still valued by Klopp and is very much a part of the title hunt this campaign.

The attacker has featured in 16 games this season, netting four goals across all competitions. He is expected to be named as a substitute ahead of tonight’s heavyweight Premier League clash with former club Manchester City.

Admittedly, the Birmingham-born man’s days at the Reds could be numbered but it looks likely that Klopp will wait until the end of the current campaign before making any decisions on his future, long term-deal or not.
