Toure and Wisdom sign new deals

After recently tying down both Jordon Ibe and Jon Flanagan to new contracts, Liverpool have announced the extensions of another two first team players.

Andre Wisdom, who spent last season on loan at West Brom, has committed his future to the club in a deal that will expire in 2019, whilst Ivorian defender Kolo Toure, whose contract was due to expire next month, has signed a one-year extension on his deal.

Wisdom’s extension suggests the manager Brendan Rodgers sees Andre Wisdom as part of his plans going forward, having made 22 appearances on loan at the Hawthorns this past season, but lost his place when Tony Pulis was brought in as their new manager.

He was mainly utilised at right-back before Pulis’ appointment, but is reportedly seen as a centre-back by those at Melwood and has the skillset to be played on the right side of a back three, should Rodgers continue with the system next season.

Kolo Toure looked set to leave Liverpool this summer, and was even linked with a move away in the last January window.

However, with experienced heads such as Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson departing this summer, it is vital that the Reds hang on to Toure for another season. Since his arrival on a free transfer from Manchester City in 2013, Toure has started 22 Premier League games for the Reds.
