Centre-back Kolo Toure, 34, is set to be offered a further 12-month contract extension to remain at Liverpool next season, according to Paul Joyce from The Express.
The experienced Ivorian defender has been in and out of the side throughout this season and has made 26 appearances. The Express claim that if he accepts the new offer, he will remain back-up to the likes of Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren.
Toure arrived at Liverpool in 2013 on a free transfer after leaving Manchester City, and really impressed in his first season at Anfield. He’s done well when called upon this season, too – especially in a really tough situation way back in November and December.
The defender’s contract situation has led to various MLS clubs enquiring about his services. Toure was thought to be weighing up the offers from these clubs, but this new contract offer may sway his decision.
With Liverpool seemingly ready to spend most of their transfer budget on attacking players this summer, keeping Toure around may prove to be a very smart move by the club.
