Trent Alexander-Arnold has accepted that his form has dipped this season, experiencing the first major drop-off of his career so far.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise at Liverpool, rising from youth team hopeful to arguably the best right-back in the world.
Alexander-Arnold has been noticeably below his usual world-class standards for much of this season, however, failing to influence matters as much for the Reds.
Speaking to ESPN Brasil [via Sport Witness], the boyhood Liverpool fan opened up about his struggles:
Probably it’s been a spell of bad form that I haven’t had before. So it’s new. But I think really, for me, I set targets in levels and I have expectations in myself.
If I don’t meet them then and I’m not happy. I want to be better than I am. I haven’t been able to meet them so far this season but we’ve only just passed the halfway stage, so there’s still a long way to go.

A dip in form was only natural at some point for Alexander-Arnold, with things largely plain sailing until this point.
An injury early in the season and also a battle with the virus currently affecting the world hasn’t helped matters, and he simply hasn’t played with the same rhythm and confidence.
Alexander-Arnold is special player, however, and he will eventually be back to his best, having only registered three Premier League assists this season, scoring only once, too.
Plenty of performances have still been perfectly reasonable, but the youngster has now set himself an incredibly high level to meet regularly.
