Van Dijk believes Robertson has what it takes to be captain

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk is tipping Andrew Robertson to one day become club captain after being one of the Merseyside club’s star players so far this season, Four Four Two reports.

Robertson is in his second full season at Anfield  after sealing a move from Hull City in July 2017 following their relegation from the Premier League.

The defender has been in incredible form for the Reds this season, displacing James Milner and Alberto Moreno as Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice left-back.

The 24-year-old has started all but one of Liverpool’s Premier League matches this season and was rewarded with his good performances by taking on the captain’s armband for Scotland in September.

Van Dijk has since revealed that he believes Robertson will only grow in confidence and ability and the centre-back believes he has everything in his locker to make a future Reds captain.

Van Dijk spoke to BBC Scotland:

If he keeps improving he will [captain Liverpool]. He’s already a leader. You don’t need an armband to be a leader for this team.

He’s doing very well, he’s made incredible steps in his career and he just needs to keep doing what he’s doing.
