Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk will be fit enough to play against Southampton on Friday night, according to a report from ESPN.
The centre-back suffered what appeared to be an ankle injury during the Reds’ 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon, which saw him hobble through the closing stages.
Van Dijk has been a hugely influential player for Liverpool this season and has contributed immensely to his team’s rise to the very top of the Premier League table.

His knock prompted concerns that he would be unavailable for his team’s trip to Southampton on Friday, but it appears that he will be fit enough to lock horns with his former club.
As quoted by The Mirror, Van Dijk spoke to the media after Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Spurs and allayed fears over the extent of his ankle problem.
The Netherlands captain said:
Yeah yeah, I think I’m totally… I’m gonna be fine. It hurts, we have to take a look at it, but I will be fine for Friday.
