Liverpool’s pursuit of Aston Villa striker, Christian Benteke, could take a big twist in the near future.
Benteke is reportedly interested in moving to Anfield, but Tim Sherwood is so determined to keep their star player at the club, that he is set to offer Benteke a fresh new £75,000 a week contract.
As it stands, with Benteke’s current deal, there is a £32.5m release clause there to be activated if a club feels it’s necessary. However, if Sherwood can persuade Benteke to put pen to paper, this could see that release clause removed from the negotiations, or perhaps lowered.
The Daily Mail claim that Sherwood is convinced Villa is the best place for the Belgian forward, with Villa’s very direct playing style that utilizes Benteke’s aerial threat.
Sherwood has reportedly spoken to Benteke and told him that his Euro 2016 chances next summer will be benefited by him staying at Villa Park. Also, that a move to one of Europe’s most elite teams could potentially be on the cards next summer after the Euros.
