Virals: Anthony Taylor appointed for huge Liverpool clash

Liverpool head to Old Trafford on Sunday to face Manchester United in search of a win over their biggest rivals.

The Reds are currently unbeaten in the Premier League and another statement victory would see Jurgen Klopp’s side further bolster their title credentials.

Meanwhile, United have endured a turbulent run of results and will be hoping to get back on track.

Ahead of the meeting, referee Anthony Taylor from Wythenshawe, Manchester, has been confirmed by the Premier League as the man in the middle.

Mike Dean will be the fourth official for the clash whilst Stuart Attwell will be on lead VAR duty.

Taylor took charge of this fixture last season as the Reds came away with an all-important 4-2 win from a ground that has generally been a difficult venue during Klopp’s reign.

Although Kopites will be relatively nonplussed by the appointment, every supporter will hope the officials play very much a secondary role to the players on show – especially in such a mouth-watering encounter.

Both sides harbour serious title aspirations and an early-season win here would prove to be a huge marker of their intentions.

Despite the obvious geographical issues arising from the main officiating appointment, Klopp’s men will know a performance anywhere near their best will be enough to overcome the challenge in front of them.

Before focus can turn to domestic matters, Liverpool face Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League tonight looking to cement their spot at the top of Group B
