Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is adamant there is no need for new arrivals at Anfield this summer as things stand.
The German boss has been expected to venture into the market further after clinching a deal to bring Ibrahima Konate to the Reds earlier in the window.
However, things have gone quiet on the arrival front since and instead, departures, as well as contract renewals, have seemingly taken precedent.
Speaking to TV2 in Norway, as cited by Sport Witness on Twitter, the 54-year-old has played down the possibility of transfers and concentrated on the quality already within the current squad.
It is summer and the transfer window is open, then everyone expects some player signings. We will see what happens. Let’s go through the squad. Do you want to buy a new fullback? A new goalkeeper? We already have good players there. In midfield, we have players with a lot of experience, such as Thiago, Fabinho, Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita. In addition, we have exciting young boys in Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones. In the attack, we have Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Xherdan Shaqiri, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi. I’ve definitely forgotten someone… If you want to buy such players, you have to spend a lot of money. We do not have to do that, because the players are already here.
Klopp went on to say it currently ‘makes no sense’ to make further additions before alluding to what hopefully is a change in fortunes for the upcoming season.
READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT
This all points to the widely perceived belief any further arrivals will follow the potential departures of Xherdan Shaqiri or Divock Origi.
Perhaps the biggest area of concern will be the midfield, as relying on either Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or Naby Keita has been almost impossible previously.
Losing the constant avaialbilty of Gini Wijnaldum has left the Reds short in the department and there will be fears a repeat of the defensive crisis that plagued last season could be on the horizon.
Liverpool have been adept at doing business on the quiet in recent years, this could be another front for a potential incoming star – or so we all hope.
