Mohamed Salah was injured as Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 3-1 on Saturday
There are fears that the Egyptian may have played his last game at Anfield already
Virgil van Dijk has now shared an honest update
Virgil van Dijk has addressed growing concerns that Mohamed Salah may have played his final game for Liverpool. Following the Egyptian’s hamstring injury in the 3-1 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The race for the top four has a new frontrunner, as Liverpool climbed into fourth place on Saturday afternoon after earning a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday. Arne Slot’s side took full advantage of the weekend’s results, leapfrogging their rivals to claim a crucial Champions League spot with just a handful of games remaining.
The Egyptian talisman was forced off in the 59th minute of the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace, visibly distressed as he clutched his hamstring.
While the Anfield crowd rose for a standing ovation, the sight of Salah heading to the substitute bench has sparked an anxious wait for scan results. With Salah already confirmed to be leaving Liverpool this summer, any significant layoff would cruelly deny him a proper on-pitch farewell.
With Liverpool scheduled to play their final game of the season against Brentford in less than a month, there are concerns that Salah may have already played his last game in red.
Van Dijk, though, has suggested that it is still too early to put a timeframe on the 33-year-old’s injury, with medical assessment still said to be going on.
However, the Reds skipper does not doubt that Salah will do “everything in his power” to have at least one last outing with the six-time European champions.
The Netherlands international also insisted that the club’s third-highest goalscorer will receive a proper send-off even if he is not passed fit in time.
Van Dijk said, via the Liverpool Echo (27 April): “We will see him again this season? I hope so. There will be a medical assessment, and then that will determine what the issue is going to be.
“I know he is doing everything in his power to be back on the pitch as soon as possible. If you get injured at this stage of the season, especially in the situation he is in, there are only two more home games left for him. It’s a combination of feelings that go through your mind when you go off.
“The reality is he has to get scanned, assessed, hopefully he won’t be long, but at this point I don’t know. Maybe he’s back next week, maybe not. I have no idea.
“He will get the send-off regardless. I don’t think that is the thing at this point; we shouldn’t think too far ahead. Knowing Mo, he is a quick healer with the right people around us, and let’s see.”
So sad

The latest incident makes things more serious, as the Egyptian has a track record for rarely being injured, especially during a game.
Therefore, Liverpool must review the situation at the end of the season, whether or not they decide to sack Slot.
Teams that usually win titles and trophies are considered to be lucky with injuries in those seasons, and that is why the club must do everything possible to maximise squad availability.
