Liverpool got their UEFA Champions League campaign off to a positive start as they secured a 2-1 win against Atletico Madrid at Anfield.
After Marcos Llorente opened the scoring, goals from Dom Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister turned the tide in the Reds’ favour as they came from behind to down Diego Simeone’s side for the fourth successive time.
Ahead of the game, Mac Allister was at the centre of a storm as he admitted he was disappointed with Liverpool for not getting a contract.
And after his goal, Jamie Carragher feels the Anfield faithful will let him off easy for his comments.
Alexis Mac Allister praised for Liverpool goal
Mac Allister did a lot of talking before the game and backed it up with a fantastic display as he capped it off with a great goal in the second half.
“Mac Allister, who talked the talk yesterday and today he walked the walk,” said the former Liverpool defender via CBS Sport.
“Still doesn’t make what he did yesterday right in the press conference, but he’ll be looked on more favourably after getting the winning goal.”
It remains to be seen if he gets a new deal, but if he carries on in the same vein under Andoni Iraola, anything can happen between now and the end of the season.
