The Liverpool lineup against Manchester City had one big surprise as Dominik Szoboszlai’s name didn’t feature in the team sheet.
The midfielder has been an indispensable asset for Andoni Iraola this season and has played every Premier League and UEFA Champions League game so far.
Ahead of the game, there were reports that Szoboszlai wouldn’t feature today as he wasn’t spotted in the team bus with the rest of his teammates.
And now, when the team news was announced, Ryan Gravenberch has been named in the starting XI as he prepares to partner Alexis Mac Allister in midfield.
Liverpool fans were a little perplexed as Szoboszlai has been one of their best players this season.
And now, James Pearce has confirmed that he is out with a hamstring problem, although the extent of his injury remains unclear.
He wrote on X: “Dominik Szoboszlai ruled out today due to a hamstring problem.”
Iraola is expected to speak to the media before the game, where he is likely to provide an update on the Hungarian.
Missing a player of his calibre – especially against Manchester City – is a body blow for Liverpool, who are already without Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo.
