Gini Wijnaldum has ‘given the green light’ ahead of a potential January move to Barcelona, according to AS [via Sport Witness].
The 30-year-old’s Liverpool future is still up in the air, with his current deal at Anfield expiring at the end of the season.
It looks almost certain that Wijnaldum will either still be at Liverpool next season, or will have sealed a move to Barca, with whom he has been linked massively in recent months.
This latest update from AS goes one further, saying that Camp Nou manager Ronald Koeman is looking to bring in new faces in January, with Wijnaldum one of those in the conversation.
That being said, Barca’s financial situation makes it tricky, which could put pay to it happening this month.

If Wijnaldum decides to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to stop him, but a January exit seems almost impossible. The Reds are midway through a gruelling, injury-affected season, so the thought of letting such a key player leave makes no sense.
Wijnaldum’s consistency in Liverpool’s midfield has been massive, as well as his fitness levels – he has featured in all 17 Premier League games – and his influence will likely remain vital until the summer.
The hope is that the Dutchman ends up signing a new contract with the Premier League champions, but that remains to be seen.
