In his first interview as a Liverpool player, Xherdan Shaqiri has responded to criticism from former Stoke teammate Charlie Adam and ex-Manchester United defenders Gary and Phil Neville.
Shaqiri registered eight Premier League goals last season as well as seven assists but Adam said the Swiss winger did not perform when needed to. Adam blamed the “so-called big players” for Stoke’s relegation who “never turned up for us and never performed”, aimed mostly at Shaqiri.
Despite Shaqiri being Stoke’s top scorer, he has been criticised heavily for his inconsistent form but perhaps Adam should look closer to home and realise he was one of many players who underperformed which led to Stoke’s downfall.
In regards to the Nevilles’ comments, Shaqiri said:
They were Man United players. Maybe they don’t like Liverpool! I don’t know, it could be that. Some people like you, some people don’t like you.

The Shaqiri transfer delighted many Liverpool fans. It was seen as great business by the club to get the winger for £13 million, especially in today’s market.
He will more than likely be used to replace one of the front three when unavailable and will provide a great back up option from the bench.
Shaqiri is expected to make his Liverpool debut on Saturday night as The Reds end their American tour against Manchester United in Ann Arbour.
