Liverpool take League One defender on trial

The Coventry City youngster, Cian Harries, has been invited to train with the Liverpool FC first team at Melwood ahead of a potential transfer, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 19-year-old defender has been of interest to Liverpool scouts for a while and the Reds have now asked permission for the player to train with them at the club’s training ground.

Ex-Coventry boss, Tony Mowbray, was manager at the club when Harries signed his first professional contract. He described him as a ‘fantastic prospect’ and also said; ‘there are not many better defenders with his passing ability’.

Harries has often been compared to Liverpool legend, Alan Hansen, because of his abilities to play the ball out and dictate play from the back.

The defender has recently signed a new four year contract with Coventry, outlining how highly he is regarded by everyone at the club.

This would not be the first time an academy player from the Midlands club has been looked at by Liverpool. Connor Thomas signed on loan for the Reds in 2011 with a view for a 1 million pound move, but it fell through.

People are expecting big things from Harries, so do not be surprised if you see him linked with other big clubs.
