Match Preview: PSG v Liverpool
After suffering a surprise defeat against Red Star Belgrade during their last Champions League outing, Liverpool head to France to face Paris Saint-Germain with some pressure on them.
With things looking very tight in Group C, a defeat in Paris would likely leave Liverpool needing to beat Napoli by two clear goals on matchday six to advance to the knockout stages.
However, such is the tightness in the group, if Jurgen Klopp’s men can pull off a famous victory, they’ll guarantee themselves a place in the Last 16 with a game to spare.
A draw against Thomas Tuchel’s side would mean that any win on matchday six would put Liverpool into the knockouts.
As well as losing in Belgrade, Liverpool also suffered defeat in Naples and as such, questions can be asked about their away form in Europe this year, so they’ll be looking to put that right at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday evening.
Liverpool’s poor away form, combined with the star-studded PSG line-up, has led to the Reds being underdogs in the game, something which could be of interest from a value standpoint for those who like to place Champions League bets.
The first game between these two sides on matchday one was a thrilling encounter, one which Liverpool won 3-2 thanks to an injury-time winner from Roberto Firmino.
With so much attacking talent on display for both teams, it would not be a shock if the reverse fixture in France later this week is an equally exciting game for the neutral and a nervous one to watch for fans of both clubs.
Liverpool have shown they can score goals against PSG at home, their challenge on matchday five is to prove that they can do it away from Anfield and if they can, they’ll book themselves a place in the Champions League knockout stages.
