Agent confirms Liverpool wanted to sign Jorginho
Jorginho’s agent has revealed that Liverpool were one of the teams that wanted to sign the midfielder from Napoli before he joined Chelsea.
The Italian joined Chelsea over the summer, but only after turning down interest from as many as four different Premier League sides.
Speaking to ESPN Brazil, Joao Santos explained that a host of clubs were queuing up to bring the midfield maestro to the Premier League.
There have been calls from Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea. In a way all the big English clubs saw Jorginho because he was already in the Italian national team.
Based on an agreement with Napoli, Jorginho still had two years contract and the last word was Napoli. At that moment, the best deal for Napoli was Chelsea.
Manchester City were heavily linked with a move to sign the former Napoli man, with the Italian looking certain to join the Premier League champions for large periods of the summer.
Chelsea managed to steal the march on other potential suitors once it was confirmed that Maurizio Sarri would replace Antonio Conte as the club’s head coach.
Since arriving in London, Jorginho has been a key figure in Sarri’s Chelsea side, just as he was for the 59-year-old in Naples.
