Liverpool have confirmed the departure of youngster Taiwo Awoniyi, who has joined Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron.

As reported by the club’s official website, Awoniyi will spend the rest of the season with the Belgian side.

Awoniyi had been on loan at fellow Belgian side KAA Gent, but the deal was cut short.

The young striker will be hoping to make a mark in Belgium after only scoring three goals for Gent.

After holding talks with Liverpool, the former decided it would be more beneficial for both parties if the loan deal was ended early, despite the player making 22 appearances during his stay.

This is not the first time that Awoniyi has spent time at Mouscron, having previously enjoyed a loan spell with the club during the 2017-18 campaign. The Belgian league gets back underway later this month.

Awoniyi was a popular figure at the club during his first stint there, scoring nine goals.
