Milner reveals his favourite Anfield European night

James Milner has revealed his favourite European night at Anfield was the win over Borussia Dortmund in 2016.

Liverpool secured an incredible 4-3 victory in the Europa League quarter-final second leg three years ago, coming from 3-1 down to reach the semi-finals.

It was one of the truly great Anfield evenings, with Dejan Lovren’s last-gasp winner a memorable moment for any Reds supporter.

While Milner could be forgiven for including one of last season’s Champions League victories as his favourite, he has a special place in his heart for the Dortmund game.

Speaking on The Big Interview with Graham Hunter, the veteran took a trip down memory lane and gushed over the win:

One of the best nights at Anfield – everyone will say City and things like that – was the Dortmund game.

It was just one of those. We looked down and out. There was no way of coming back.

They were a very, very good team. Then you get one goal and then you get a bit of belief in the ground and then the next.

Obviously, the way we scored the last goal – at the Kop end – and the whole roof comes off.

Milner has experienced final heartbreak in both the Europa League and Champions League at Liverpool, having lost to Sevilla and Real Madrid respectively.

He will be hoping to go one better this season, with Jurgen Klopp’s side one of the Champions League’s most dangerous teams.
