Liverpool must up their game to win the title, admits Klopp

Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool will have to improve if they are to win the Premier League title this season, following the 1-1 draw with West Ham.

The Reds struggled at the London Stadium on Monday night, dropping two more points and pulling just three clear of Manchester City.

It was a nervy, disjointed performance by Klopp’s side, with clear signs that they are feeling the heat.

Speaking after the game, the Liverpool manager assessed the situation, in terms of the title race.

The German admitted that his team must up their game if they are to clinch glory, with bigger tests still to come:

If you want to be top at the end of the season, you have to deal with much tougher situations than we had today.

For the last five, six, seven weeks, we talked about a two-horse race but now Tottenham are in behind. For me they are 100% in the race.

I see your faces and you are feeling sorry for us but we are fine.

If you get a point at West Ham, that’s fine. That’s not a surprise. If you want to win big things you have to be ready for these tight races.

Back-to-back draws have left plenty of Liverpool supporters feeling disconsolate, despite still being top of the table.

There is an increasing feeling that the momentum is with City, who head to Everton on Wednesday evening.

Next up for the Reds is the visit of Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, with a return to winning ways imperative.
