Jamie Carragher has donated £11,000 to the Sean Cox Rehabilitation Trust, report the Liverpool Echo.
Liverpool fan Sean Cox was left with life-threatening injuries after being attacked by a Roma fan before last April’s Champions League semi-final first leg at Anfield.
There have been numerous initiatives attempting to raise money for the Irishman, with the latest taking place in Liverpool last Saturday.
Carragher’s charity, The 23 Foundation, and BOSS Night combined to host a special event at Hinterlands in the Baltic Triangle, with the former centre-back a prominent figure.
The 41-year-old was interviewed on stage by sports journalist Brian Reade, with musician Jamie Webster also performing.
The night was a roaring success, making a total of £11,000, and it has since been revealed that Carragher has matched that amount.
It is a wonderful gesture by the Liverpool legend, who is second only to Ian Callaghan in the list of Reds appearance makers.
Carragher is also aiming to play in a Liverpool vs. Republic of Ireland legends match at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on April 12th, featuring the likes of Robbie Fowler, Ian Rush and John Aldridge.
