Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised Jordan Henderson after his performance in the 0-0 draw with Bayern Munich, as reported on the official club website.
The Reds played with great intensity but could not find a way past Manuel Neuer at Anfield, meaning this last 16 tie is still finely poised.
With Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren all sidelined, midfielder Fabinho was forced to deputise at centre-back, meaning Henderson played in the holding midfielder role.
The Englishman did brilliantly to minimise the effect of playmakers James Rodriguez and Thiago Alcantara, and his good work was noticed by Klopp. He said:
That was very good. Defending, in general, was good.
And of course, Hendo did a brilliant job there, it was unbelievable how many balls he won back and stuff like that. It was a fantastic game from him – but that’s actually what we expect as well.
The Liverpool captain was one of the standout performers, snuffing out danger whenever Bayern came forward with the ball.
After a performance like that, it will be hard for Klopp to replace Henderson, who will be fired up once again for the huge clash this weekend against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
