Virgil van Dijk admits he wants to become a Liverpool legend, achieving “amazing things” in the process.
The towering Dutchman has been an incredible signing since joining from Southampton for £75million in January 2018.
Liverpool’s defence has been transformed by his influence and there are few, if any, better centre-backs in the world currently.
It is still relatively early days in Van Dijk’s Reds career but he is already thinking big moving forward.
When asked in an interview with BBC Sport how he would like to be remembered, the 27-year-old gave an emphatic response:
As a legend of Liverpool. I want to achieve amazing things here. We have a fantastic squad, we have everything, we have all the tools.
They went all out to get me and I want to give everything for them. Before I started training [with the club], I went to the game against Leicester [in December 2017].

I was in the boardroom and met so many legends, great players who played for a beautiful club.
When you play for this club, you’ll always be welcome as you’ve been part of the family. It’s one of the reasons I definitely wanted to play for the club.
Van Djik will return for Liverpool for Sunday’s vital Premier League clash away to Manchester United, having been suspended for the goalless draw with Bayern Munich.
He is arguably the first name on Jurgen Klopp’s team-sheet and he is going to be so important in the Reds’ quest for a maiden Premier League title.
Losing him for a significant period of time could be fatal.
